Supermodel Heidi Klum is lending her efforts to affected victims and families of Superstorm Sandy by distributing supplies, food, and water in the afternoon on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the American Red Cross Nassau Chapter in Mineola, NY, in partnership with the American Red Cross, AOL, and Patch. After, Klum will go to Lindenhurst, NY, for the tree lighting with Mayor Thomas Brennan. Klum's efforts are a reminder that these communities still need help rebuilding. Following Hurricane Sandy, it can be tough to reach all of your friends and family to let them know that you're OK. The American Red Cross has a "Safe and Well" registry that can help spread the word. You can go to the site and enter your information, and confirm that you're "safe and well." Then, friends and family can also go to the site and search for your name. Here are instructions from the Red Cross site: Register Yourself as “Safe and Well” Click on the “List Myself as Safe and Well” button to register yourself on the site. If someone had asked Anna Reid, 15, of Westfield, if she remembered everything she'd learned in a Red Cross babysitting training class she'd taken four years ago, she probably would've said no. But, when she needed it most, that life-saving information all came back to her. What began as an ordinary August day for the soon-to-be Westfield High School sophomore took a dramatic turn at lunchtime when the 3-year-old girl she was watching began to choke.
