Patriots’ Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America is looking for Scouts who work to achieve academic success while practicing healthy living through the athletics program. These scouts may be eligible for the Scout Scholar Athlete Award. Scouts can be nominated by teachers, coaches, scoutmasters, or fellow scouts. Interested scouts must be in 9-12 grade or a college freshmen and have an average GPA of 3.0 throughout their high school career. Applications are due by October 1, 2012. Scouts that receive the award will be recognized at the 2nd Annual Scout Scholar Athlete Award Brunch on November 18, 2012 at the Bernards Inn in Bernardsville, New Jersey. Scout troops will be delivering paper bags and flyers to New Providence doorsteps today, in collaboration with the Community Service Association and Faith Lutheran Church.

With the holidays right around the corner, a few local organizations are teaming up to give back to the community. A collaborative effort by New Providence Boy and Cub Scout troops, the Community Service Association and the Faith Lutheran Church will provide much-needed food to local families and the Starfish Interfaith Food Pantry of Plainfield. "The scouts deliver approximately 6,000 brown bags to everybody's doorstep and apartment in New Providence on Saturday (Nov. 13)," said John Malinauskas, from the CSA. "The bags are donated mainly by the A&P but Shop-Rite also helps us out by providing some." Malinauskas said a flyer is attached to each bag, letting people know what items are most needed.
