30 Bags of Pot Found on Unconscious Man, Cops Say

Police said PCP was also found on Berkeley Heights man.

A Berkeley Heights man was charged with drug possession in Chatham Friday after police said they found him unconscious and with 30 bags of marijuana at the River Grille. Jacquim Sperlazza, 25, was charged with possession of marjiuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, being under the influence of a narcotic drug, possession of Phencyclidine (also known as PCP) and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to a press release prepared by Chatham Police Ptl. Kevin O'Shea, police responded to the River Grille around 2 a.m. after Sperlazza was reported to have fallen. Berkeley Heights Police: Car Stolen from Valet Parking Lot

Thieves reportedly made off with late model Mercedez.

Berkeley Heights police say that a 2011 Mercedez was stolen from a restaurant parking lot shortly after a valet parked it to be returned to its owner. According to a Berkeley Heights police report, on Friday, Nov. 30, Sgt. Bradley Countryman responded to a report that a car was stolen outside a Springfield Avenue restaurant. Police say a valet reported he returned the victim’s car and parked in the designated area. As he returned to the restaurant to tell the owner the car was ready, he reportedly noticed another vehicle enter the parking lot. Shortly thereafter, the victim’s vehicle sped out of the lot by a driver described by witnesses as a well-dressed black male. Berkeley Heights Man Arrested on Burglary Charges in Bergen County

Oliver Blanco, 24, is now in Bergen County Jail on burglary and theft charges after eluding law enforcement for several months.

Glen Rock police say they've nabbed a man who allegedly burglarized a Valley Road home back in September. Oliver Blanco, 24, of Berkeley Heights, remains in Bergen County Jail on $100,000 bond on charges of burglary and theft. Glen Rock Police Chief Frederick Stahman told Patch early Friday afternoon that detectives and sheriff's department personnel, lifted finger prints from the Valley Road home on Sept. 30. Cash and jewelry had been missing in the afternoon heist. Extensive interviewing, Stahman said, narrowed the suspect list to one man – Blanco. Though police went to Blanco's last known address in Berkley Heights, Blanco was nowhere to be found. Detectives issued a warrant for his arrest, which was also disseminated in a state-wide …

Berkeley Heights PD Seek Mugging Suspect

Man described as thin, in his late 20s or early 30s, with olive skin.

Berkeley Heights police are asking the public to help identify a man suspected in a mugging attempt. Police say a man stalked and attacked a woman walking home from work on Plainfield Avenue near Lincoln Street at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The suspect reportedly grabbed the woman by the wrist and asked for money. After the victim said she had no money, the suspect reportedly shoved her to the ground and ran west on Lincoln Street. Police describe the suspect as olive skinned and approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build and unshaven, in his late twenties or early thirties. The Union County Sheriff's office held their second pistol competition on Saturday, Oct. 13. The sheriff's office reported that 28 officers from the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Plainfield, Linden, Roselle, Roselle Park, Kean University, Hillside, Mountainside, Summit, Springfield, Kenilworth and Union County Police Departments competed.   Sgt. Jerry Plum of the Plainfield Police Department won first place, Sgt. Carlo Caparruva of the Union County Sheriff’s Office took second and Sgt. William Bizun of the Linden Police Department won third.

National Night Out Set for Tonight at Meisel Park

Annual public safety event will feature a movie, kids attractions, demonstrations of public safety equipment and more.

From 6 to 9 p.m. tonight, Springfield's Meisel field will be the safest place in Union County. Once again, local public safety agencies have teamed with County and municipal law enforcement agencies for the Annual National Night Out event. Families and other law-abiding citizens are encouraged to attend. Not only will Springfield's finest be on-hand, but so too will officers from Union County and nearby towns, as well as the latest tech and equipment the that law enforcement field has to offer. The event is a police-community partnership aimed at preventing crime and drug use. As in previous years, the event offered a fully loaded array of family activities, from bouncy castles to movies, music and food.
