Meet Betty Metzger, Friend of the Library

Metzger devotes her time and talent to helping the New Providence Library.

While any town resident can donate time to the New Providence Memorial Library, some residents start volunteering and just don't stop. Betty Metzger, a Borough resident, has been volunteering for nearly 20 years. "I love the library. I've been a Friend of the Library for 20 years," Metzger said. "I'm also on the board of trustees, but I was a friend first." Metzger braved the inclement weather yesterday to sell tickets at the annual mr.Ray concert fundraiser at the Municipal Center gym. The concert, which is in its sixth year, is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and will benefit the New Providence library. "We're hoping to make $2,000," Metzger said. 'mr. Ray' Brightens Up Rainy Library Fundraiser

Children and grown-ups enjoy lively music for a good cause.

 Children's entertainer mr. Ray (a.k.a. Ray Anderson) brought smiles to the faces of the young and young-at-heart who braved the downpour to attend his annual concert, a fundraiser for the New Providence Library yesterday at the Municipal Center's gym. "We do it every year on the same day during the NJEA (New Jersey Education Association) conference," said Colleen Bryne, Library Director.  "It's a win-win. It's November so it's usually cold or blustery, and parents and kids are happy to have something exciting to do for the long weekend."
