Mountainside Group To Collect Donations This Weekend For Sandy Victims

Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside will accept much needed items this Saturday, Sunday and Monday

A grassroots community group in Mountainside has organized a collection of goods to aid those affected by Hurricane Sandy.  Friends and neighbors wishing to help may bring items to Pollard Hall at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, located at 301 Central Ave. in Mountainside, on Saturday, Nov. 10, Sunday, Nov. 11, and Monday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.   Specifically, the following articles are needed:

UPDATE 3PM: Latest Power Outage Numbers, Gas, Polling Locations

Most New Providence residents affected by Sandy should have power back Wednesday, while 90 percent of those affected in Berkeley Heights should have power back Saturday.

Caitlin, Thank you. While it is true that the dstrict has a certain number of "snow days", however, I recalled the policy was to use the February week to make up the snow days, hence our family does not plan to go too far during that week but we do for this week. As far as using AWR for Salt Brook, I knew some students had to miss class because they could not get to AWR.   more ›

Update: 5:50 p.m. Here is an update from the New Providence Police Department — Good afternoon all:   I hope this message finds all recipients well, safe and secure in your homes. As you all are well aware we have survived one of the most powerful storms to hit New Jersey ever. Although we have significant damage in our town, we are still much better off that many other communities. As of this time, some power has been restored mainly north of Springfield Avenue. We just had a conference call with JCP&L who offered us no time table on our restoration. There is no word on whether there will be school tomorrow, Oct. 31, or not in New Providence, Berkeley Heights and Mountainside. However, given the significant damage in the area and across NJ and NY, I would be surprised if there is school tomorrow.
