Fire Tears Through Corrinne Terrace Home

A fire caused extensive damage to a Corrine Terrace home this afternoon, officials said.

A fire tore through 1151 Corrine Terrace in Mountainside this afternoon, badly damaging the basement and other areas of the home. A resident who lives across from 1151 contacted police at noon on Friday to report the fire. When Police first arrived on scene they saw large amounts of smoke pouring out from the roof of the home, according to Mountainside Police Captain Richard Osieja. “The house has sustained extensive damage and it appears the fire started in the basement area,” Osieja said. In addition to the Mountainside Fire Department’s efforts to battle the fire, departments from Linden, Springfield, Summit, Westfield, Roselle, Plainfield and Berkeley Heights also responded to the call to provide assistance, according to Osieja. Woman Listed in Serious Condition After Mountainside Car Accident

Helena Boguniewicz, an 85-year-old Union resident, was seriously injured after driving her car off Route 22 on Sunday afternoon. The accident is still under investigation.

An 85-year-old woman is listed in serious condition after she was injured in a car accident that occurred on Route 22 in Mountainside on Sunday afternoon. Helena Boguniewicz, of Union, was traveling eastbound on Route 22 around 3 p.m. when she drove her 1999 Silver Toyota off the highway near the exit lane of Mountain Avenue (Echo Lake Park) entrance area, Mountainside Police Captain Richard Osieja said in an email.  The vehicle came to rest head on into a large tree, Osieja said. Boguniewicz was the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle. She had to be extricated by the Mountainside Fire Department and then flown by Medevac helicopter to University Hospital.
