Local And State Officials Issue Statements On Death Of Former UC Assemblywoman
Summit resident Betty Cox, who served in the NJ Assembly in the 1970s and represented Union County, has died.
Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick, R-Union, Morris and Somerset, issued a joint statement today regarding the death of former Assemblywoman Elizabeth "Betty" Cox, 85. The former legislator represented Union County: “Although Betty’s tenure as a legislator was brief, she served the people of New Jersey and her constituents in Union County with distinction and honor. Her service to our state and, in particular to Union County, is appreciated and will not be forgotten. On behalf of the Assembly Republican caucus, I wish to offer our sincerest condolences to Betty’s family and friends.” Cox served in the Assembly from November of 1971 to December of 1972. Though she could be a bit abrasive in her later years Betty Cox was a fount of information regarding politics/policy in NJ. She had an illustrious career and was a champion for women's rights very early on, starting with her days back with "Radio Free Europe". A true trail blazer she will be missed.
