Berkeley Heights Emergency Responders Rescue Injured Hiker

Responders used a stokes basket with ropes to lower the injured woman down the river bank, which was covered with ice.

These release was received from the Berkeley Heights Fire Department. At 1 pm on Feb. 22, the Berkeley Heights Dispatch center received a 911 call for a woman who had fallen and sustained an ankle injury while hiking in the Watchung Reservation. The woman was located by Berkeley Heights Police and Rescue Squad members on the south side of Blue Brook just over the border in Scotch Plains. Due to the difficult terrain and icy conditions the Berkeley Heights Fire Dept Technical Rescue Team was requested to the scene. Berkeley Heights Fire Dept Rescue 1 and Squad 1 responded to the scene. Lt Tom English was the Rescue officer. New Providence Police, Fire, EMS Responded to Saturday Fire on Fifth Street

An investigation determined the fire started in the kitchen and is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

This release was received from the New Providence police department. On February 9, 2013, at approximately 6:56pm, a report of black smoke was seen coming from a residence in the area of Fifth Street. Upon investigation, a one story wood frame house was located on Fifth Street where fire and smoke was coming from the rear of the residence. Police, Fire and EMS personnel immediately responded to the scene. Crews from the New Providence Fire Department quickly began to extinguish the fire. With the assistance of the Berkeley Heights and Chatham Township Fire Departments, the fire was contained within an hour. An investigation was launched by the Union County Arson Team and it was determined that the fire started in the kitchen. The …
