Today: Summer Arts Festival, Farmers Market, Concert Series

There's something for everyone today in Berkeley Heights, Mountainside and New Providence. Read on for the full details.

The Berkeley Heights Department of Recreation is sponsoring its annual concert series this month. Tonight's concert will feature music from "Beatlemania Again" at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park. Recreation Director Tom Barton said the concert is intended to bring family fun to Berkeley Heights, as a way for the community to come together. Even though the event is hosted by Berkeley Heights, the series is open to anyone. Sponsors for the event are the Chamber of Commerce and State Farm. In Mountainside, the County of Union is sponsoring "Rizzos Reptiles" at  Trailside Nature & Science Center, starting at 1:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale at 1 p.m. and are $4 per person. New Providence Cancels Town-wide Events

If it weren’t for the New Providence Business Community, we would be reading headlines like that!

  Most people don’t think about how the borough is able to fund events like the summer concerts or the Independence Day Celebrations, especially in these fiscally challenging times.  In fact, the borough has not funded these events or the street fair, Farmers Market, 5K race, or Christmas Walk for the past several years.  Instead, the local business community generously stepped in to provide the funding and manpower so that New Providence could continue to offer outstanding celebrations and activities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.      “People don’t realize how much New Providence businesses do for our town,” said Jimmy Vardas, New Providence Business Community spokesman and owner of the Prestige Diner.  “We really want …
