New Providence police activity, Feb. 16 - Feb. 27, 2013: 2-17-2013 – Patrols responded to Charnwood Road on a report of a motor vehicle being parked on the front lawn of a residence. The vehicle was located without license plates. Patrol officers were able to identify the owner of the vehicle through the vehicle identification number. A summons was issued to Arina Aristova, 43, of New York for abandoning a motor vehicle on private property without license plates. 2-19-2013 – A Southgate Road resident reported that he was having problems with his cellular phone and switched carriers. 12-22-2012 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Christopher Stanek, 26, of New Providence with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The charges stem from a motor vehicle stop on Springfield Avenue for a moving violation. He was also charged with driving while his license was suspended. 12-8-2012 – Corporal Chad Wilson arrested Rathney Barquero, 18, of Caldwell on an outstanding warrant out of Cranford Municipal Court. The warrant was located after a resident contacted the police department about suspicious activity on Livingston Avenue. 12-9-2012 – Patrols responded to Union Avenue on a report of a motorist traveling with the axle dragging on the roadway. Patrols located the vehicle on Springfield Avenue. Upon investigation by the responding officers, it was determined that the operator of the vehicle had been involved in a motor vehicle crash and was intoxicated. In three separate incidents, two borough residents and one Staten Island resident were arrested, charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, among other offenses.
New Providence Police recently arrested three individuals in three separate incidents for driving while intoxicated in the borough. Sgt. Daniel Henn arrested Ashely Hildebrand, a 19-year-old New Providence resident, on Saturday, Nov. 17 for driving while intoxicated, according to a New Providence Police press release. Hildebrand had initially struck a parked vehicle while driving her vehicle and she was arrested after Henn investigated the incident. Hildebrand was charged for using a cell phone without a hands-free device and with driving while intoxicated, according to the release. Steven Opalewski arrested Jonathan Estrada Veintimilla, age 23, of Orange, NJ on an outstanding warrant out of Livingston after the vehicle he was driving was observed with a cracked window and a brake light out. Mr. Estrada Veintimilla was found to be operating a vehicle while his license was suspended and was charged with the offense. 10-16-2012 – Detective Stephen Drown charged Dianna Washington, 38, of Orange with six counts of 3rd degree bad checks. The charges stem from an investigation from a report made by a Borough credit union in July, that Ms. Washington had deposited six checks into an account and the checks had either been written on closed accounts or accounts with not enough funds to cover the checks. She was released with a pending court date at the Union County Superior Court. 10-17-2012 – Patrolman Michael Scuorzo arrested Khalilah Woodson, 36, of Newark on an outstanding warrant out of the City of Newark. 10-02-2012 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Joshua Rogoff, 35, of Staten Island, NY with possession of marijuana, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and careless driving. Mr. Rogoff was arrested during a motor vehicle stop after Patrolman Diamond observed Mr. Rogoff driving in a careless manner on South Street and Ethan Drive. From the New Providence Police Department: On Sept, 26, a resident of Salem Road reported that she was a target of the “Grandma Scam.” A male called telling the resident that her grandson was arrested for driving while intoxicated and needed $1,900 to be sent to pay for his court costs. When the resident began questioning the caller, the caller became irate, and had her call a different phone number. He indicated that the phone number was to the Public Defender. When the resident spoke to the “Public Defender” and began questioning how legitimate the situation was, this man became irate, too, and hung up on her. 9-7-12 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Christopher Smith, 35, of Newark on an outstanding warrant out of the City of Newark.
