TELL US: Do You Care About 'Sequestration'?

Has the scary news about the impending federal sequester got you worried?

If it feels like we went through something like this just a month or so ago, you're right. That was when we were warned that the country was set to nosedive off the "Fiscal Cliff" back in December. As you'll recall, part of the Fiscal Cliff was a series of tax cuts dating from the Bush Administration era that were set to run out unless President Barack Obama and Congress came to terms before the expiration. You saw the results when the government took a bigger cut from your first paycheck in 2013. But now we're teetering on the verge of another federal precipice with the Sequestration. But what is it? What the Sequester Is Part of the resolution of the Fiscal Cliff was the American Taxpayer Relief Act. That extended some tax cuts and …

Obama came up with the idea of Sequestration now live with it. Why doesn't Obama and his wife try to conserve some of our money? Both of them try to come off like a regular brother or sister but meanwhile they like to live the high life at our expense. Trips to Aspen, Hawaii, MV and golf with Tiger Woods. Meanwhile, the majority of Westfielders put him in office.   more ›

Fiscal Cliff: What It Means For My 2013 Paycheck?

The financial deadline looms in Washington, with no deal yet made. Check this primer, and share your questions and thoughts.

With Christmas 2012 over, one reality check is the looming "fiscal cliff" deadline just a few days away. On December 31, tax cuts dating to the George W. Bush presidential term are scheduled to expire, and President Obama and congressional leaders have not reached a compromise. That means tax bills would increase for many middle- and upper-class taxpayers. And that means paycheck withholding for many workers would change, leaving them with less take-home pay in the new year. Apparently, though, there will be no immediate change in withholding tables, while the situation is unresolved. According to John Tuzynski, the IRS’ chief of employment tax policy, employers should continue to use 2012 withholding tables and personal exemption amounts …

Poll: Do You Agree with Supreme Court Healthcare Ruling?

In a complicated decision, the justices upheld most of the health care reform legislation popularly known as Obamacare.

Do you agree with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision Thursday upholding most of President Obama's signature health care reform legislation? By a 5-4 vote, the justices upheld most of the act, although the opinion is a complicated one. The court upheld the requirement that every American purchase health insurance or else pay a penalty, as a tax decision and upheld it on those grounds, in an opinion written by Chief Justice Roberts. "Our precedent demonstrates that Congress has the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000 under the taxing power, and that Section 5000 need not be read to do more than impose a tax," Roberts wrote in one of the key sentences from the opinion. U.S. "Super-Committee" Fails to Reach a Deal

The bipartisan super-committee announced today that they could not reach an agreement on how to cut 1.2 trillion dollars in government spending. What do you think?

After months of debate, the twelve members of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, also known as the United States congressional “super-committee” has failed to reach a deal to cut 1.2 trillion dollars in spending.  This means that automatic spending cuts will begin in 2013. A statement from the super-committee led by Representative Jeb Hensarling (R) of Texas and Senator Patty Murray (D) of Washington released this statement to the press announcing the failure to produce a bipartisan result: Despite our inability to bridge the committee's significant differences, we end this process united in our belief that the nation's fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve.  We remain …

tb2k, anyone still using Obama's empty "hope and change" slogan at this point deserves no better response. At least Hurricane Irene came and left. This president is a four year-long disaster. Personally, I wouldn't care about Obama's vacations with "millionaires and billionaires and corporate jet owners, etc." if he hadn't just given a nationally televised speech criticizing such citizens for not…   more ›
