Last October, a Berkeley Heights fitness facility assisted officers with fitness training so each could be better prepared to perform their job duties and service citizens of Summit.

Cyrus Fakroddin, known for walking his goat around Summit, Manhattan, is being held on $250,000 bail. An investigation is being conducted by Summit Police and the Union County Prosecutor's Office.
Summit resident Cyrus Fakroddin was arrested and charged Wednesday with first Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault against a person who was physically helpless and is being held in Union County Jail on $250,000 bail, according to a press release from the Union County Prosecutor's Office. Fakroddin, who is most known for walking his goat, Cocoa, around Summit and Manhattan, was arrested by members of the Union County Prosecutor's Office and the Summit Police Department without incident, according to the release. Communities to meet with existing dispatchers, equipment vendors in January; engaging consultant for proposed timeline for dispatch center's construction, implementation.
New Providence and Summit continue to inch closer to a shared emergency dispatch center, which could be up and running in 12 to 18 months. At their most recent meetings, New Providence Borough Council and Summit Common Council approved identical ordinances and resolutions that lay out the groundwork for this shared service, which will be housed in the New Providence Municipal Center where the Rescue Squad was formerly located. Members of the center’s project committee met on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the next steps toward making this shared service a reality. Winifred Bozzomo didn't cross Morris Avenue in crosswalk. David Inernoscia could not stop his van due to wet roadway. Both Berkeley Heights residents were issued a summons.
The Berkeley Heights resident who was struck on Morris Avenue in Summit Friday evening was not in the crosswalk at the time of the accident, according to Summit Police, and she did not sustain any life threatening injuries. The Summit Police Department received a report of an accident involving one motor vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Morris Avenue and Lafayette Avenue in Summit on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6:31 p.m., said Summit Police Lt. David L. Richel in an email. The officers who responded to the scene found that Winifred Bozzomo, a 75-year-old resident of Berkeley Heights, was crossing the roadway with her husband. Update: 11 p.m. A 75-year-old woman from Berkeley Heights was struck by a motor vehicle near Marco Polo Restaurant on Morris Avenue in Summit this evening, said Robert Weck, Summit Police Chief. Weck said she sustained an injury to her finger and there were no other reported injuries. The woman was transported to a local hospital, Weck said, and the cause of this accident is under investigation by Summit Police Traffic Personnel. Merger could save 1,700 hours of police work and $43,000 of general expenses for the borough's civic services.
New Providence Borough Administrator Doug Marvin presented Council with a $1,197,450 joint dispatch center proposal Monday night, which would merge emergency services between the borough, Summit, Millburn and Berkeley Heights. After more than a year of discussion between the four towns, the newly-named Watchung Ridge Emergency Squad would shift 1,700 hours of dispatching to police work. Marvin said each town would pay an even $205,000 for capital improvements, including $452,550 for renovations to the dispatch center that would be housed in New Providence Municipal Center. Families are hoping to get a deal on unclaimed bikes, starting at 9 a.m.
A representative of the Summit Police Department said she didn't know how long the city has been holding its bicycle auction, but it's been for "many, many, many" years. The bicycles up for auction are part of a collection of abandoned bikes acquired by police, according to a spokesperson. After six months, if no one claims the abandones bikes, they become eligible for auction. It's a good way to pick up an inexpensive bicycle. Summit will hold the Bicycle Auction today, in the Police Garage at City Hall. The garage is accessable by following the ramp in the City Hall parking lot.
