Late Fall Programs in Summit Now Registering Youth With Special Needs

Several programs are now being offered this fall by the Summit Community Programs and coordinated by TryCAN.

Youth with special needs and those who could use just a little help and encouragement are welcome to now register for several programs being offered again this fall by the Summit Community Programs and coordinated by TryCAN.   Our experienced coaches and instructors are excited to return to help our youth develop skills that may allow them to pursue a sport or activity further or simply provide them with a meaningful recreation experience.  These popular and affordable classes, open to both residents and non-residents, also use the assistance of trained teen Peer Mentors from local middle and high schools to help participants fully participate in the classes, learn and have fun. We have a full schedule of programs, each running 4 - 6 weeks…

TryCAN Offers Study Skills Workshop for Students with Special Needs

TryCAN, a collaboration between Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Summit and other communities, is offering two Study Skills Workshops on Wednesdays this Fall.

There is still time for youth with special learning needs to register for a unique class being offered by the TryCAN program.   Study Skills Workshop is designed to help students in grades 6-9 learn to help them handle school requirements more effectively, including organization, work planning, note taking, assignment/project attack strategies and more.   Session 1 will tackle organization skills, including maintaining planners/agendas, managing your backpack, study tips, time management, note taking and test preparation.   Session 2 will continue with certain Session 1 topics and add writing strategies, advanced note taking, memory building and other strategies for test taking.
