Community spirit alive and well in Borough of Mountainside as residents with big hearts reach out to hardest hit communities, whose residents lost everything during Superstorm Sandy.
It doesn’t necessarily have to take a superstorm to move Mountainsiders into action. In times of trouble, folks in the Borough traditionally just show up when somebody needs help. So it really didn’t surprise me when I received an email from longtime resident Cindy West, asking me to help spread the word about a three day collection drive for those who lost far more than their patience with the power company. We were the fortunate ones. Aside from a handful of scary tales from the night a Frankenstorm rolled into town and cancelled Halloween for a second year in a row (but who’s counting), no one died here. No houses had burned down, and no one in the Borough, that I am aware of, was seriously physically injured as a direct result of the …

Patch is here to stay for the communities of New Providence, Berkeley Heights and Mountainside, but we are making some changes we'd love to share with you. Please, read on!
It's been quite a journey for New Providence-Berkeley Heights Patch. About two years ago, New Providence Patch was launched to the community and has grown by leaps and bounds ever since. Then, in March of 2012, Berkeley Heights-Mountainside Patch merged with New Providence Patch and made for an even better hyper-local news and information site for the residents of New Providence, Berkeley Heights and Mountainside. In that time, it has been a wonderful privilege to serve as your editor. But the times they are a-changin'. We're mixing things up at Patch this week, but don't worry — New Providence-Berkeley Heights Patch is here to stay. Instead, I will be hopping over to the hilltop we all lovingly know as Summit and taking over Summit Patch…

Start your holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in New Providence, Berkeley Heights and Mountainside. Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities. According to the American …

Sean Flannery, the former Fanwood Pub owner, has launched a line of shoes with retractable heels.
The former co-owner of a popular local pub has gone from serving drinks, to launching a new business that will come as a relief to women who routinely wear high heels. Mountainside resident Sean Flannery, former co-owner of Flannery's pub in Fanwood, recently sold his share of the popular local tavern in order to continue with his latest venture — a convertible high-heeled shoe company known as Camileon Heels.
